5 Things every worker needs to
be really productive.
ACCEPTANCE
It’s more than
just a place to sit and the
tools to do the job. Every
employee wants to know they
belong. What they need to know
is they’re not just on the team,
but they’re acknowledged as
being a real part of the
team. Most employees are ready
and willing to jump in if they
feel they’re welcomed to the
team.
UNDERSTANDING
There is a real
human being in that job.
Diverse experiences, backgrounds
and perspectives are as much a
part of the skills the worker
brings to the job as their
training. Understanding who
they are puts more real
resources at your disposal.
Having your employee know YOU
understand who they are may be
the most effective tool you can
give them.
MOTIVATION
Passion is often
a much stronger incentive to
action than money. Finding the
aspect of the job the worker
cares about the most and
encouraging them to invest in it
can often ignite a fire even
they didn’t know they have.
Motivation is not always about
dangling treasures in front of
them. It is often more about
providing an open door to an
opportunity they dreamed about
and helping them walk through
it.
APPRECIATION
Having your
co-worker know someone is truly
aware of what they bring to the
table and have a genuine respect
for it brings a level of
satisfaction like few other
things can. Employees that
sense their capabilities are
indeed noticed and valued by the
people around them that count
finds a dedication to the team’s
goal that benefits everyone.
RECOGNITION
It is amazing how
those two little familiar words
(“Thank you”) achieve such
miraculous results.
Productivity seems to be much
less a function of “should” and
“need to” and much more about a
desire to have someone notice,
value and recognize a job well
done. There are certainly times
when a monetary or formal
recognition is needed, but the
recognition that sustains
productivity over weeks, months
and years comes from a smile and
those two little words given
sincerely and often.
